Morning Light Over the Valley

How light, weather, and patience tell the story of a place.
BEHIND THE LENS 01
Morning Light Over the Valley FIELD & STORY FARM

Morning arrives slowly in the valley. Before the sun clears the ridge, fog gathers between the fields and the mountains begin to separate into layers.

I return to the same overlook often, not to force the moment but to be there when it chooses to reveal itself.

Some mornings it does. Some mornings it does not. I’ve learned to recognize that the photograph is made long before I lift the camera—by weather, by light, and by place.

The valley, just before the light reached the lower field.
The photograph begins long before the shutter.

Light does not wait for you. It asks you to be ready.

The view is familiar, but it is never the same. Fog shifts. Light opens one ridge and conceals another.

The work is less about controlling the scene than noticing when the landscape has arranged itself.
